Holocene is a series created by photographing deposits of manganese oxide known as dendrites. While photographing the patterns I thought they looked a lot like plant fossils, which led to the thought that these delicate formations are nature's footprint, and unlike our own, will slowly fade over time. I wanted to create imagery that highlights the beauty of nature and invokes a sense of the universe and something greater than ourselves. Creating a space to take a pause and reflect on our own mortality and that we will not be leaving behind just our remains but the byproducts of our daily actions. It's an appeal to the viewer to consider it's not too late to change course and protect the breathtaking and wondrous home we share.
