This series contains images of dendrites, which are deposits of manganese oxide that have crystallized onto rocks. Initially drawn to nature’s artistry, it is their uncanny resemblance to fossils that made me think about nature’s footprint and how it will fade over time; which is in stark contrast to our footprint. Our discordant actions and nature’s rhythmic cycles stand at opposite ends of the spectrum but are inextricably linked. These images are meant to honor mother earth’s profound beauty and harmony while creating an opportunity to reflect on the epoch of man and our ability to change our current course. Will we leave behind permanent destruction or will we take a cue from nature and choose to be a fleeting bloom?
